This documentation was most generously handed to our website by fellow surveyor Kevin Browning. Kevin recognized the invaluable insight and its great worth to the record of Artillery Surveyors 131, SVN. We agreed with Kevin that our Site was an appropriate forum to present Peter Sadler’s writings.
We regard our Site as privileged to present his documentation and relieved it will be aired and on record.
Lt. Peter Sadler was the officer in charge of Survey Section 131 Div Loc Bty when it first deployed to SVN, April 1966. Peter retired from service as a Major in the RAA. In retirement he wrote “Paladin : A Life of Major General Sir John Gellibrand”. In 1989 he drafted some thinking on 131 Div Loc Bty, in particular the Survey Section.
These draft thoughts of Peter’s are the only record as Peter passed before he could address, expand and qualify his work. We present it untampered, recognizing his writing as first thoughts, unedited.
To Peter’s surviving family, we trust our recognition and presentation gives you cause for some pride for we greatly appreciated his truth and candour.
